An almost defining feature about myself is my passion for puzzles and problem-solving, almost to a fault. This has been a major drive for my degree in Computer Science. However, it wasn't until I was 17 that I first solved a Rubik's cube after a co-worker was shocked after she found out I did not know how to solve one. That day after, I bought a Rubik's cube and not a week after, I was able to solve it in under 5 minutes. Since then, I now can solve it in 30 seconds, solve almost every variant of Rubik's cube (2x2 all the way up to 7x7, pyramids, dodecahedrons, you name it).
For a project in my Cognitive Psychology class, I had to choose a memory challenge to complete. I decided on learning how to solve a standard 3x3 Rubik's cube blind-folded. Overall, it took the span of a week, working an hour to two a day. After enough practice, I sat down to try to complete a successful solve. The video is of my 5th attempt after the first 4 failed. Notably, my first attempt ended in a near perfect solve with only two pieces out of place respectively with each other.
Quite often I can find myself relaxing or de-stressing by playing video games. I am a huge fan of strategy games, my favorites include FTL: Faster Than Light and XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Other favorites of mine include Minecraft, Papers Please, and the Call of Duty series. Notably, Minecraft was a driving force towards my pursuit for a degree in Computer Science because it introduced me into a different side of computers and starting to think how they work.
I love to play sports, whether with friends and teammates or just by myself. I grew up on the baseball fields with my dad and is deep in my blood. While baseball being my main sport up until high school where I also began running track as a sprinter. Now in college with not that much time on my hands, I find myself playing intramural sports or just pick up games with my friends. About a year ago, I rock climbed for the first time and fell in love. Now being my main activity for exercise, I go to the rock gym multiple times a week to de-stress and stay in shape.
Something I end up not doing a lot of now but still frequent is drawing. While not my biggest passion, I like sketching different objects or scenes. I also am a pretty big fan of digital art, working with PhotoShop and doing edits or digital painting. I also help out with my Mom with her photography business by using my skills in PhotoShop to touch up senior photos from time to time.
